Active Ingredients & Their Purpose:
18% Oleoresin Capsicum (Red Pepper) - Use: The primary ingredient which causes the burn factor from the spray (2 million SHU).
CS Military Tear Gas - Use: The inflammatory agent that causes inflammation in the eyes, nose, and mouth
Invisible UV Dye - Use: After spraying, this causes an “invisible” dye on the assailants which enables law enforcement to successfully identify the victim in the case the victim attempts to wash off the substance.
Just like some of the hottest peppers on earth, pepper spray is rated in its heat intensity by Scoville Heat Units, or SHU's. An extremely hot Habanero pepper has a heat index close to 2 million SHU's, and most of the pepper sprays available today are rated from 2-3 millions SHU's. That's hot! Naturally, the higher the SHU number, the hotter the pepper spray, but there's no reason to go out and find the most expensive or highly rated pepper spray on the market that you can buy. Any commercially available pepper spray will have enough SHU's to get the job done and stop just about any attacker in his tracks.
