23 Year old Emmanuel Jerome thought he was being clever when he pulled out his iPhone during a burglary and attempted to use a flashlight app to help him see what he was stealing. Unfortunately for him, he mistakenly turned on the video recording option in addition to the light. After he and some friends finished taking what they wanted they left the house assuming they had gotten away with the crime.

When Emmanuel was picked up a few days later by police as a suspect in other home invasions and robberies the police were likely surprised at what they found. During the course of the arrest the police went through his iPhone looking for any evidence concerning the robberies. They found the video of the other burglary and used it as evidence in court.

Emmanuel was sentenced to 44 weeks in jail after the judge told him, "Significantly, in my view, camera footage of the invasion of that property was captured on your mobile phone." Any would be criminals should keep this cautionary tale in mind. While it is always best to follow the law, if you're going to break into a home make sure you're not recording it on your phone!
